Jackson, 2 1/2 years:
Weight: 25 lbs, about 6th percentile
Height: 34 inches, about 8th percentile
Clayton, 4 months:
Weight: 15 lbs, 1 oz, about 55th percentile
Length: 23.5 inches, about 7th percentile
Head: 41 cm, about 20th percentile
In comparison, at four months Jackson was 15 lbs 4.5 oz (60 %ile) and 26 inches (85 %ile)
We took Jackson in to the Ear, Nose, & Throat specialist two weeks ago. At his two year appointment I mentioned to Dr. Sheffield that he drools way more than he should for being 2 years old. She said it could possibly be due to enlarged adenoids but that we'd have to go to the ENT to have it checked out. Well, almost 6 months later I finally took him in. They did an x-ray of his head to check it out. He didn't really enjoy that too much, but it was better than sticking a scope up his nose. Turns out his adenoids are indeed enlarged, blocking about 75% of the airway from his nose. This causes him to have to breathe through his mouth and to drool because his mouth is open so much. They can do surgery to remove the adenoids; it is an "easier" surgery than getting tonsils removed--less painful, quicker recovery, fewer risks. If it were just the drooling thing, I think we'd opt not to have the surgery; who wants to subject their kid to that, even if it is an easy surgery? But I think I have noticed a little bit of sleep apnea and that's probably not a good thing. So I think we're leaning towards having them removed, but we haven't really figured it all out yet. Anyone have experience with this? Two months ago I took Clayton in to the doctor because he had some funky skin thing going on. His skin was red and would ooze yellow stuff. The doc said it was impetigo and gave us some antibiotic ointment to put on it. The ointment helped, but he's had the impetigo off and on since then. He also has eczema on his face and head, which is probably why the impetigo kept coming back, because the skin was always broken. He scratches at his head really badly, especially when he's tired or upset. We have to keep socks on his hands most of the time. Dr. Sheffield gave Clayton some oral antibiotics to take instead of the ointment and his skin is looking so much better. She also gave us some ointment for the eczema on his body and told us to use hydrocortizone cream on his face & head, and to give him benedryl every night to help with the itching. An added bonus with the benedryl is that he sleeps much better too :) I love having the soft baby skin back instead of the rough, scaly, oozy impetigo eczema skin!
Other than those things, both boys are healthy and right on track with their development and I feel so blessed for that!

I'm surprised that Clayton is so much shorter than Jackson was at 4 months. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out and if Clayton ends up being bigger than Jackson. The way things are going for my boys right now, they'll be the exact same size.
I don't know much about adenoids in little kids, but my teenage brother has to get his out. If he's got sleep apnea going on though I'd definitely go forward with the surgery to avoid any potential problems with losing oxygen to his brain.
Do they think that Clayton will have to be continually on meds for his eczema etc...?
Good Luck! It sounds like those two boys are keeping you busy! I really like your other blog by the way.
I'm sorry Clayton has eczema. :(
Unfortunately he likely inherited it from me. Hopefully you'll be able to get it under control and it won't be so bad. I'll give you some tips.
It's good that you checked out Jackson's situation- what the Dr. said makes sense.
Looking forward to seeing those cute boys NEXT WEEK! :) :)
Do you think Clayton might have adenoid problems too? Maybe he just drools because he actually IS a baby.
that IS erin shaw! She's my roommate! SMALL WORLD! i love her!
