Jackson is THREE!

I can't believe my Jackson boy is THREE!  He is getting so big and grown up.

Some things about Jackson lately:

-I'm sure he's physically ready, but he has NO desire to use the potty.  He will tell me when he's going in his diaper but won't sit on the potty.  We're going to change that soon.
(He thought it was fun to wear the underwear for about 5 minutes, then requested a diaper again.)
-He's wearing size 4 diapers, size 2T or 3T shirt, and size 12-24 month shorts with an adjustable waist, and size 8 or 9 shoe.  Yes, he is skinny and it is hard to find shorts and pants for him.
-We've got the 3 year check-up at the end of the month, so we'll update with stats then.
-We're totally done with the soother! Hooray!  We were down to using it only at night and he was fine with that but the for some reason that changed.  We only had one soother left and it was getting really worn out because he'd chew on the tip so I decided when that one was done, we were done with it.  Once the tip was flapping off I cut it off and let him still have the soother.  He couldn't suck on it but would still hold it and chew on the side.  When I went to Georgia right after we moved to our new house (oh yeah, I haven't blogged about that yet. Oops.) we accidentally left it there, and on the drive home I caved and we stopped at Walmart to buy a new one, but cut the tip of it too.  It only took a few days once we got home for him to lose interest in it. Actually I think he threw it in his room when he was mad that it was "broken" and it was never seen again.  I just found it a few days ago, but it'll be going out to the garbage.
-Unfortunately Jackson doesn't take naps anymore.  Pretty much since we moved into our new house.  He's taken a few naps but then he won't go to sleep at night, so now we don't even try...in fact we try to prevent naps.  It's been an adjustment, and it has meant that I've had to give up my afternoon nap too. We need to come up with something constructive to do during that time.
-He absolutely INSISTS that he is NOT my son.  He is Dad's son.  When I say he is my son he just acts like it is so funny and I said I am green with purple spots on my face.  "Noooo, I'm not YOUR son, mom! I'm DAD's son! Silly mom!"
-He knows all his letters and the sounds they make.  He's constantly saying a word and the repeating the first sound a couple times and then telling us what letter it starts with, and then he'll list of a bunch of other words that start with that sound.  I bet he could start reading/sounding out some easy words if I worked on it with him.  Maybe we'll have to try that soon.

What he likes to do:
-He still loves to play cars and trains and does it every day.  We don't build train tracks quite as much as we used to, but he still plays with the trains.
-He's into tying things lately.  He'll use a ribbon or the string from a toy and to tie lots of different toys together.  It can get pretty tricky.
-He wants to turn on "quiet loud music" and dance all the time.  I still haven't quite figured out what "quiet loud music" is because I often get it wrong when I try to put something on for him.  Maybe I'll catch on some day.
-He likes to play outside and draw with chalk or blow bubbles or ride on his scooter or go to the park, but it has been too hot to be outside much lately.
-Every day when we check the mail (it is a family event around here) or go out the garage he stands up at the top of the driveway and then races down the hill to the street.  I cringe every time he does it.  I'm so afraid he's going to trip and land face first on the pavement one of these days.
-He's constantly climbing on me, hanging from my neck, or standing on my feet.  Most of the time he doesn't even realize he's doing it.
-

Some cute things he says:
-"out cup" = a cup with no lid
-"naybe"
-"What will happen if ..." (What will happen if we don't clean up our playdough?  What will happen if we turn off the lights? What will happen if I drink all my milk?)
-"What does that mean?" sometimes about the words themselves, but often more of a "what are the implications of that?"  por ejemplo, me:  See those tall buildings?  Jackson: What does "buildings" mean?  me: umm, buildings are those tall things over there made of metal and glass.  Jackson: No mom, buildings mean we're getting close to Henry's house!
-"Mom, will you say ____"  and tells me what he wants me to tell him, and in the voice/tone I usually use.  ex.: "Will you say, 'Here comes Jackson!' and then I will run and Clayton will laugh?"
-"You are Mom, Dad. And you are Dad, Mom. And I am Clayton and Clayton is Jackson."  He doesn't do this as much as he used to, but a month ago we would go through this probably 5 or 10 times during dinner every night.
-"Is it getting dark out?"  ...almost every evening.

We love our Jackson Boy!
