It sounds like you must have had a painful experience today? :( Jordan has the "Keep your long hair out of the beaters" lesson learned advice too.

Lesson learned: Either unplug the mixer or remove the beaters from the mixer before using your finger to clean them off. At bare minimum, don't hold the mixer with your thumb over the "on" switch while using the other hand to scrape the beaters.
