I was going to entitle this post "No Crap" but then I thought my mother might not read it/might disown me if I did.I never knew I could be so concerned about someone else's poop. I guess that's what being a mom does to you. We've got some poop issues going on around here...well, more lack of poop, really. Jackson was just fine until we started solid foods, and since then he's been quite not so fine in the pooping department. It was to the point where he'd go several days without a messy diaper and we'd have to give him an enema/suppository because he just wasn't going. I've stopped feeding him rice cereal and things have gotten a little better, I guess. He's going without help now, but it is so sad!
He holds his breath and his face turns bright red. He squeals and cries out in pain and clings to me then kind of goes limp. Somewhere in there he passes a little bit of very hard poop. I've tried giving him juice---prune, apple, and pear---but he doesn't really drink it very well, from a sippy cup or a bottle. I've mixed his baby food with prune juice, fed him prune baby food, and stopped the rice cereal. We've seen a little bit of progress but not enough. Anyone have any other suggestions of things for us to try?Maybe this whole post was a little much for a blog, but you didn't have to read it and most of you have had pooping babies yourself. At least the pictures are only of the food going in...

Gasp--such language! Just kidding. ;) That's so sad to think of him crying and holding on like that. Poor baby! I'm sure you've heard of the BRAT diet for treatment of diarrhea in infants - Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. Try cutting out those foods for a while & reintroduce them gradually to learn their affect. If you google 'baby constipation'
oops...I sent that before I finished. Oh well, you can figure out what I was saying.
I like your new background.
Thank you for not putting pictures of the food coming out!
go! jackson! go! what do we want?? number 2!! you can do it, you can do it!
hope he feels better soon.
poor little guy, I know it's hard on the parents too
When Luke starts to seem slow I just don't give him solids for a couple of days or a lot less and make sure he gets a lot of fluid and that does the trick for him. Maybe you should ask the doctor if the prune juice isn't working. He might need something else.
Natalie,
Pretty much any fruit will do the trick. Have you given him peaches? Those seem to really get "the # 2" going for my kids. Also the amount of fat in their diet can clog up their system. I know Jackson doesn't have dairy products yet, but you may just need to balance how much he's nursing with how much fruit and liquid he's getting. Your milk probably has a lot of fat in it. Kylee had this same problem after she was a year and we found out we were not giving her enough liquid, and she had a addiction to cheese that we had to start monitoring more! I don't know how to tell you how to get him to dink more if he won't take a bottle of sippy cup very well. Maybe you need to drink more too to thin out the milk....I don't know. :) Good luck!
I would suggest getting with your doctor. My oldest son had that problem and I did everything you are doing. To make a story short, he is 6 and is just now getting it under control. It got to a point when he was potty training that he associated the pain with #2, and so he would hold it, forever, until he couldn't and then we had to give him laxetive to clean out his system. So make sure you work along side with your doctor! But don't be scared, from everything I have learned, for some reason, boys can have issues in that department. Best of Luck!
Poor little dude. We're not even close to that point yet, but i'm sure it will be exciting when we get there.
My Trevor is just the opposite and has been since that beginning solid stage of his life and he is 19 mos now...a friend told me once that we should put our kids together and shake them up a bit and maybe they'll both come out normal! :)
